Because we definitely need it.

When I became a stay at home mom, it felt really lonely.

Being home with my first daughter most of the day while my husband worked long hours was really lonely.

As much as I loved my daughter, it would have been nice to be able to talk to someone else other than my babbling baby girl all day.

Someone who could relate to what it is like being a stay at home mom.

But I found that to be a little harder than I thought it would be.

No one else in my family had really been a stay at home mom so they couldn’t relate.

And then most of my friends with kids worked so they couldn’t relate either.

So the beginning of my stay at home mom journey was a really lonely one indeed.

As someone who suffered from postpartum depression, a lot of my symptoms contributed to feeling lonely and unsupported.

My husband is an amazing father but he can’t control his work schedule.

All he can control is when he is home.

This is when he would do his best to spend as much time with his baby girl before he had to get some rest before returning to work.

Which left me with our daughter the majority of the time alone.

I knew that I needed to find some other moms to spend some time with in order to get some adult interaction or else I might just lose it.

But where in the world do I begin to look for mom friends?

And not just any mom friends.

But the ones that look like me.

So where can I find black mom friends?

Bonus points if they are also stay at home moms too.

The first place I started was the library because they offer weekly story times for younger children.

I was bound to meet more stay at home moms there because most stay at home moms are looking for activities to do with their younger children.

And the library is a great free activity to take younger children to.

So I started going to library and but I realized something rather quickly after going for a while.

I was usually only the black mom present.

Even though the moms that I was meeting were great and I continue to still hang out with them, I still would love to have some black mom friends that I can relate to.

So I kept looking.

The next place I decided to search was on the internet.

In particular, Facebook.

If you haven’t looked got into Facebook groups, then you are definitely missing out.

Facebook groups a great way to meet and develop friendships with like minded people.

After searching through a few black mom support groups, I finally found some groups with moms in it that looked like me and that I could relate to.

These Facebook support groups have been so helpful and informative in my journey as a mom.

I wrote a blog post with some of the best facebook support groups for black moms that I’m apart of.

Each of the groups provide support to black moms in different ways such as one group being specifically for black stay at home moms.

Or another group specifically for black moms who have toddlers.

These groups cover different aspects and phases that black moms may be experiencing and are helpful with those different phases.

You can check out that post through the link below.

I will catch you all next time!
