Is There Really Such A Thing As Thinking Too Much?
I mean think about it.
Can you possibly use your brain too much?
Are there times when you should use your brain in order to make sure you are doing something right?
Absolutely.
Bu then there are times that require action that you don’t have all the time in the world to just sit there and think.
Being an overthinker, I’m pretty sure I take too much time thinking about every little thing I do.
And boy does it suck.
I will dissect all of my conversations with my friends to see if maybe I should have said something differently.
I will replay a situation that happened with my daughter over and over again and wonder if I should have handled that differently.
And I will even go back and forth on what I want to eat that night.
As good as it is to be someone who uses their head a little more than others, it can also get exhausting.
Sometimes, you just wish you could turn down the volume in your head because it starts to get a little too loud at times.
It is not about silencing the noise for good, but more so about muting the volume for those moments that don’t require a lot of thought.
You know like when it is time to go to sleep.
The last thing I want to be doing when I’m trying to go to sleep is thinking about everything that happened that day.
Or thinking about everything I have to do the following day.
Yet, this is me every night as I lay down.
My husband is one of those individuals who can fall asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.
And then there is me who does all things to get their selves in the right mindset to fall asleep and I’m still up for hours some night.
It is just not fair.
But the majority of the reason I struggle with sleep is because my brain is in overdrive and I cannot seem to slow it down.
Obviously at some point, I finally fall asleep but like I said, that can be after a couple hours sometimes.
I don’t know why I’m like and I’m sure others have wondered the same.
And at this point, I have just accepted that I am this way and that I need to find a way to deal with it.
Maybe it’s part of being a woman or even a mom.
Because as a mom, I cannot just think about myself.
I have a little person looking to me to make decisions as well and they love to mimic what we do.
My husband is definitely the more practical one of us who can make a decision much quicker than I can.
That is probably why we work so well together because we do have that balance.
But at the end of the day, the habit of overthinking can run its toll on you so we have to find ways to combat this mindset.
