Do You Have To Wake Up Before Your Kids?

Because that is what I heard.

There are many blogs and videos of parents sharing their morning routines.

And a lot of these blogs and videos will show men and women waking up at 5:00 AM to start their days.

The primary reason that parents are waking up this early is to get a head start on their days before their kids wake up.

But do you really have to wake up at 5 AM in order to do this?

Ideally, I prefer to wake up before my kids, but not that early.

I know some people like to wake up really early so they can work out and also get started working.

But for me personally, I only need about 30 minutes to an hour to myself so I can get to bask in the silence for a little while longer.

And also to get some things done such as checking my emails and figuring out I need to get done that day.

These are things that are much easier to do when my girls are still sleeping versus when they are awake.

But as much I would love to wake up early every single day, I know that I’m human.

And human me wants to sleep in too sometimes.

Does that mean that I will less done than if I had woke up before them?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

I just know that if I’m emphasizing the importance of rest to my girls, then I should probably model what I’m saying.

And that may look like me sleeping in until they wake me up sometimes.

My goal every morning is to get up around 7:15–7:30 AM to get a few things done before they get up.

This was much easier to do when I was just a mom to a toddler.

But now that I’m a breastfeeding mom to a toddler and a baby who still isn’t sleeping through the night, it does not alway happen.

In fact, my baby girl is my alarm clock most days.

At first, I was kind of bummed that I did not have the energy to get up like I did before my baby girl got here.

But I had to remember that my body is feeding my baby girl everything that she needs which takes a lot of energy out of me.

I need to give myself grace and give my body the rest it deserves.

So if I don’t wake up as early as I wanted to, it will be ok.

As long as what I need to get done that day, gets done that day is all that really matters.

No matter the time I woke up that morning.

I wrote a post on my super simple morning routine as a stay at home mom with the things that I like to do in the mornings.

As I said above, I prefer to wake up before my girls, so this my routine is what I do when I get up before them.

But since I have been waking up along with them in the mornings, I normally just start this routine after we all have breakfast.

You can check out my morning routine through the link below.

I will catch you all next time!
